Gilroy has been hosting the world's best food festival for 25 years. Back in 1979, most people had never heard of Gilroy, California. That all changed when Dr. Rudy Melone proposed hosting an annual festival to celebrate the end of the garlic harvest and raise money for local charities. Garlic grower Don Christopher and farmer/chef Val Filice thought it was a "crazy idea," but they agreed to help. They, along with hundreds of volunteers, organized the first festival in keeping with the newly created Mission

Statement:
The Gilroy Garlic Festival is established to provide benefits to local worthy charities and non-profit groups by promoting the community of Gilroy through a quality celebrations of Garlic.

Gilroy Historical Museum
Learn about the Garlic Capital of the World before it received this title. The museum is open Monday and Tuesday and Thursday and Friday from 10am-5pm (closed on Wednesday) and offers exhibits on Gilroy and the surrounding south Santa Clara Valley.
